Route GR-10

From the Pontón de la Oliva to Torrelaguna

The GR-10 Route is a long-distance trail that forms part of the extensive network of European paths, connecting the city of Valencia in Spain with Lisbon, Portugal. This trail is a paradise for nature and hiking enthusiasts, as it traverses diverse landscapes such as mountains, lush forests, crystalline rivers, and small villages. The section running from the Pontón de la Oliva to Torrelaguna, in the Sierra Norte of Madrid, is considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful, thanks to the diversity of its landscapes and the tranquility of its surroundings.

The route is approximately 16 km long and is perfect for those wishing to enjoy a full day of hiking. Along this trail, hikers can delight in impressive panoramic views of the mountains that form the Sierra Norte, a mountainous area of great natural beauty. The route is perfectly signposted with the characteristic red and white markings, ensuring that walkers do not lose their way during their journey.

One of the highlights of the route is Pontón de la Oliva, a reservoir that offers an impressive scenic environment. From here, hikers begin their adventure, ascending through paths surrounded by vegetation, oaks, and pine forests. The trail crosses various areas of the Sierra del Rincón, which is declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. This ensures that the natural environment is excellently preserved.

If you desire an even closer experience with nature, you can opt for the GR-10.1 variant. This alternative veers north and offers a higher-altitude route, traversing areas of great scenic beauty. Here, the hiker can enjoy even more breathtaking views, with mountains rising majestically and less-traveled areas, providing a more solitary and connected experience with the natural surroundings.
