The Genaro Trail (GR-300)
A Journey Through Natural and Cultural Heritage
The Genaro Trail (GR-300) is one of the most emblematic paths in the Community of Madrid. Throughout its more than 70 km, this route connects a series of picturesque villages around the El Atazar Reservoir and traverses one of the most beautiful natural areas in the region, including the village of Patones. The trail is ideal for hiking enthusiasts, as it not only allows them to enjoy stunning landscapes but also offers an immersion into the historical, cultural, and ethnographic heritage of the villages that comprise it.
The Genaro Trail route is divided into seven stages ranging from the municipality of Patones to towns such as El Atazar and El Berrueco. Depending on the chosen direction, the journey can begin from Patones towards El Atazar or from Patones towards El Berrueco, allowing it to be adapted to the walker’s preferences.
The trail is especially challenging due to its steep elevation gain, with a maximum altitude of 1,145 meters above sea level, making the route a high-level experience for more experienced hikers in good physical shape. Throughout this journey, hikers can enjoy mountainous landscapes, lush forests, and spectacular views of the El Atazar reservoir, one of the most important bodies of water in the community.
